For our May meeting we had a fascinating talk by Gina Ferrari. Her work is inspired by the history of the women she makes garments for. We were encouraged to guess which historical or mythical women the bodices were designed for. Unfortunately we weren’t very good at this. The one we did guess was Marie Antoinette, the tragic queen of France. Originally Gina had intended to decorate the bodice with cakes, but in the end decided to make the head dress out of then instead. We were asked to model the ‘hair’, but again no one was forthcoming, so Gina modelled it herself.
At the moment we are in the process of planning our exhibition. This will be held at The Cow Byre, in Ruislip, Middlesex. The dates are 29th of June to 5th July. The full details are on our web site www.harrowembroiderers.co.uk
